My name is Mercy Frank and I’m 14 years old from Asaro village, Eastern Highlands province of PNG. I was born on January 17th of 2006. This story is based on how my friends and I welcome the Governor General Sir Bob Dadae to attend the 2019 Goroka show in Eastern Highlands province.
Before September 14th, my teacher pick some of the very active students. I was also choose as one of those active students. I was so excited because that was my first time to see the Governor General of Papua New Guinea Sir Bob Dadae physically and to take part in such a programmes to welcome him and his delegates to Eastern Highlands province to attend the Goroka show was such a privilege.
He would arrived on September 14th around 3:00 pm at the airport so we waited for the plane to arrive in the afternoon. The security guard told us that he will be arriving soon and wanted us to get ready and go inside the airstrip to prepare ourselves. While we were preparing ourselves, the plane had landed. We quickly got ourselves into two straight lines and getting ready to sing the National Anthem and the provincial song for the Eastern Highlands province.
We also put the red carpet from the exit of the plane all through the gate where his car was waiting. When he came out of the plane, he was surprised to see us students to welcome him. He walk gently onto the carpet and we sang the National and provincial Anthem. He walked all the way to his vehicle and went straight to the opening ceremonies of Goroka show.
The school truck loaded all of us the participants and drop us off right at our school ground. After drop off I went home.
This was the first time in my life to take part in such programme. I’m so happy and excited that I will still remember that day till I met him again.
